In the United States, obesity prevalence has surpassed alarming rates and reached epidemic proportions with increased body mass index poor diet being among top causes of morbidity mortality. Approximately 18.5% children in States have obesity. Childhood is associated medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, asthma musculoskeletal disorders other conditions. It also an risk for discrimination bullying. The goal treatment pediatric adolescent patient overweight or to develop healthy habits lifestyle patterns which will hopefully persist into adulthood order prevent future adverse health outcomes, improve quality life image self-esteem. Osteopathic family physicians are well suited provide needed comprehensive care, taking a holistic, patient-centered approach including nutrition, activity behavior. While therapeutic changes primary focus treatment, provider must consider socioeconomic factors, mental health, comorbidities familial factors when determining treatment.
